Internship in D100 Radio
As an important stage intended upon entering CHC, I joined the internship programme organised by school, and I was assigned to have the internship in D100, an Internet radio station specialised in political and lifestyle programmes, with the motto of “telling the truths, exercising justice and providing care”.
My Usual Work Schedule
In most of the days in my internship, I worked with a full-time Programme Assistant (PA) who is in charge of backend production of some live programmes in the Hong Kong Channel, a paid channel in the radio station. The programmes I worked with includes Food Show (為食麻甩騷), Crazy Guys (瘋中三子) and West Side Story (西城故事).

Preparing Materials
Before On-air...
I needed to gather images for the video live programme. Different methods were utilised for photos from the hosts:
For most occasions, I collected them from the WhatsApp group of the programme.
The another way is to log in the Gmail account of the programme.
Then, I had to copy these pictures into the folder in the server. The names distinguish who the photos belongs to.
Controlling the Videocast
During the Programme...
I had to create the video live programme using the TriCaster system in the control room. This includes:
editing the title bar, located at the bottom of the video, to show the accurate date and host names
starting and ending the online streaming and swapping scenes and pictures during the beginning, breaks and the end, as well as upon the requests by hosts
uploading the photos that were discussed in the programme to its own Facebook page
To save time, I might start editing the catch-up clips during breaks.
Creating Catch-up Clip
Right after the Programme...
I made the catch-up contents:
First, I edited the auto-recorded audio clips using the Adobe Audition software accompanied by the station ident and a promotional clip to form the catch-up audio file. After exporting the file, I had to upload it into the server with the FileZilla software.
In addition, a catch-up webpage had to be set up in the WordPress platform. I copied the contents from previous episodes, modified the name of the catch-up audio file and the link of the video version, which was streamed and stored in the Livestream account.
Finally, I created the catch-up webpage, which contains links leading to the pop-up window for the contents and the audio download. There is also a corresponding page in the D100 app for the catch-up, so I had to make sure the thread and the contents are present in it.
Producing Promotional Clips
After the step above...
I went on making a promotional clip which would be played during other times.
I opened the template in Adobe Audition, along with the auto-recorded audio. Next, I selected parts with valuable information or soundbites onto the editing panel and cut the portions with no or weak sound.
After exporting it as a WAV file, I had to place it into the system allowing radio controller to play the clip.
Making highlight videos and more
In other times...
I edit programme highlight videos, which would then be uploaded to the YouTube channel of the radio station.
I downloaded some videos of the previous episodes from the Livestream website, and edited them with the Adobe Premiere Pro software.
After finding some interest scenes on a video, I complied them and applied some transition effects.
Occasionally, I updated the spreadsheet containing viewing statistics of the videos in the YouTube channel and various Facebook pages for programmes.
My internship in D100 Radio is the major step towards my future career on multimedia production, since I was able to involve in various kinds of production. I hope the experience in my internship, accompanied by the techniques learnt from school, would become a convincing evidence of my suitability for the crossmedia industry.
